While my time here was brief, it was incredibly memorable. Suzan and Paul were so welcoming, along with their three dogs of varying sizes, who were all friendly from arrival to departure. The hours were fair, and Suzan worked alongside us for the most part. She was happy to tell us all about the trees, the prairie, the equipment, and pretty much whatever else we wanted to know. While I was here with another WWOOFer, we did a lot of weeding and prepping of chestnuts for the upcoming chestnut festival. The weeding was definitely tough work, and the other WWOOFer and I were flabbergasted that Suzan handles all 70+ acres of the farm practically by herself. Suzan was also flexible with hours and allowed us to explore nearby Iowa City for the morning and come back to work in the afternoon for one of our workdays. The accommodations were clean, I was provided my own room and my dietary restrictions were accommodated. We sat down and ate meals together with Suzan and Paul and had lively conversations cracking jokes. All that said, I would highly recommend WWOOFing at this location. It was an incredibly memorable stay filled with ample learning opportunities and good people. I would absolutely recommend it to anyone looking for a welcoming and rewarding WWOOFing experience!

Being on the farms was a great time. I learned a ton about llama care and training, meat and egg chicken care, chicken processing, and the science bejind soil. On top if it all Doug and Michelle are are people who care about living a good life. Lots if creativity and positivity on this farm.

Kathleen and James were great hosts. They were very kind, friendly, supportive, encouraging, and accommodating. What I loved most about working here was the variety of different tasks that I got to learn about. From pruning onion and garlic to picking potatoes to pruning plants to weeding to splitting and stacking wood to even learning how to use a heavy duty brush mower. Also did other tasks like cut down an entire row of corn and even got to make jam. If your looking for a place with a lot of different opportunities to learn and grow this is definitely the place. Kathleen's property consists of a beautiful Swedish farm house, and a variety of really cozy looking cottage and Airbnb rentals. She has many acres of beautiful woods with thick forested trees. I would totally recommend Kathleen's place to anyone wanted to try WWOOFing.

This was by far the most meaningful farm stay experience I have had the opportunity to enjoy. The PSL community is welcoming and deeply inquisitive. Their market garden is a beautiful space with a variety of fun tasks depending on the season. I enjoyed tending the mushroom logs, picking green beans, and preparing the fruit trees for winter. I cannot recommend WWOOFing here enough!

Sharon was a wonderful host - not only did she go out of her way to provide an educational and lovely farm experience, she also integrated me into the local culture as much as possible, taking me along to very wholesome and cozy local fall activities. I’ve learned so much from her on all sorts of matters including vegetable, nut and fruit cultivation, animal care, operating farm equipment and food conservation, and all the while she was very adaptive to my needs and a very good instructor. I’m profoundly impressed by the farming operation she’s built and she does so with the utmost respect for the environment, the crops she’s cultivating, and the animals in her care. On top of that, her home is lovely and very comfortable and she’s an amazing cook. Also, Vermont in the fall is a must do experience. I’m grateful to have had my first WWOOF experience with Sharon, and I hope to return in the future.

Kailen was kind, welcoming, and easy to talk with, and I enjoyed our conversations. Everything was as expected, and I felt comfortable with him and his lovely family. The place was nice, and it was interesting to see the construction project underway. Kailen is also open to teaching and sharing what he knows, which made the experience especially enjoyable.

had a unique experience in a magical location. feels like living with a giant family literally, because there are tensions and love within the community. met really empathetic and open minded humans and felt really heard. got to check out portland cause its super close to downtown portland. a good place to be exposed to a way of community living, its dynamics and operations.

Julie and Fran are THE BEST. Anyone who gets the chance to spend time with them in Bethel is in for such a treat! My sister and I spent two weeks with them and felt so welcomed and had such an enjoyable experience working in the gardens, meeting friends, family, and people in the community, and listening to fabulously told stories along the way. We helped finish up the season's harvest, build raised beds, make and can jams and jellies, and sell at the Saturday market. We really feel so lucky to have had the chance to get to know Julie and Fran and to live in their world for a couple weeks. We hope to go back!

This was my first WWOOF experience and it was absolutely incredible. This Farm, like many of the reviews say, is a great spot to try out volunteering on a farm. Joan and Jay were very friendly and the other WWOOFers there were equally as welcoming. The bunkhouse is very cool. The animals were awesome - really enjoyed the morning feeding routine.

As a first time wwoofer I am so glad to have decided on this place. Evan and community members provide a beautiful, soft place to land where you’re sure to be able to spread your roots and grow! The work is sometimes challenging but always fulfilling with plenty of opportunity to learn. Lauren is the most wonderful, patient farm manager and it is a true pleasure to work under her direction as well as Evan’s. Getting around the island can be difficult if you do not have your own car but you are able to get to a handful of places easily enough by bus and Uber. I would highly recommend this place to anyone, especially first time wwoofers, who are looking for a safe, fun and life changing experience!

My partner and I stayed here all summer and really enjoyed the experience. We were very sad to leave! I'd recommend staying here to anyone, whether you are a seasoned veggie farmer or looking to learn about something completely new. You'll meet some truly excellent and welcoming people who have formed a sweet community around healthy and affordable food. The work expectations always felt clearly delineated and fair. Housing was comfortable and Simon and Marqui (and family) are the best hosts we could have asked for.

I had a great time at this farm! I really enjoyed working with Mary, Skye, Soleil, and my fellow WWOOFers, and I appreciated how organized things felt- we had a clear list of tasks given at the beginning of each day, tools were in labeled boxes, and we had set start and end times each day. I enjoyed seeing how the farm connects with the local community through the food bank down the road and through volunteers who come to the farm. They also did a great job of assigning a range of tasks and rotating tasks among the WWOOFers so that we all gained experience and knowledge in various areas of the farm.
